our belief
At McKeever Mountain Guiding we strongly believe that the wild spaces and mountains that we enjoy every time we go out need to be protected. If anything, we would go further and say that in some cases they need to be returned to their natural state, as the Scottish landscape that we see today is far from natural and a result of man's exploitation of the land. Why should we wait for government's to take action on protecting these landscapes and the environment as a whole when there are people and charities out there already doing this work. This is why we donate to charities which protect and restore wild spaces.
what we do
When you book a day of guiding with McKeever Mountain Guiding we donate £10 to either the Nevis Landscape Partnership or the John Muir Trust.
Why these two charities?
The Nevis Landscape Partnership is a small local charity based in Fort William which endeavours to protect and enhance the legacy of the natural heritage of Ben Nevis and Glen Nevis for locals and visitors alike. Incredibly, despite it's popularity and beauty, Ben Nevis and the mountains surrounding it have no true protected status unlike Snowdon and others. When you choose to climb, scramble or walk with McKeever Mountain Guiding in the Lochaber area we donate £10 per day of guiding or instruction to the NLP's Sponsor a Tree Campaign, helping to grow the future forests of native trees and protect Ben Nevis and Glen Nevis.
The John Muir Trust is a national charity which aims to protect, conserve, rewild and repair wild spaces, largely in Scotland. The trust owns and protects such areas as the summit of Ben Nevis and 12,000 hectares of Skye including much of the Red Cuillin and a part of the Black Cuillin including Bla Bheinn. When you choose to climb, scramble or walk with McKeever Mountain Guiding on the Isle of Skye we donate £10 per day of guiding or instruction to the John Muir Trust's Wild Wood's Appeal, since this is the trust's suggestion of the best way of helping to protect, repair and rewild areas of the Isle of Skye.
