cuillin munros course
The Munros of the Skye Cuillin are some of the most prized and challenging summits in Britain with some of the most spectacular mountain scenery anywhere in the UK. Though the peaks on the Cuillin Ridge may not have the stature of some Munros they are a formidable challenge and include in their midst the infamous Inaccessible Pinnacle. Starting at or very close to sea level, covering technical ground and graded climbs, and travelling through a labyrinth of paths and false paths only adds to the challenge they pose.
This course is aimed at those who wish to complete all of the Cuillin Munros, whether a Munro bagger or just an avid hill walker looking for a new challenge, this four day course aims to climb all of the Munros on the Cuillin ridge.
Day 1: Sgurr nan Eag, Sgurr Dubh Mor and Sgurr Alasdair Day 2: Sgurr Mhic Choinnich, the ‘In-Pinn’ and Sgurr na Banachdich
Day 3: Sgurr a’Ghreadaidh and Sgurr a’Mhadaidh Day 4: Sgurr nan Gillean, Am Basteir and Bruach na Frithe
With the aim of completing all the Cuillin Ridge Munros we find the following itinerary provides us with the greatest chance of success. Although we will most probably complete each day as stated above, we like to be flexible with the order of the days in order to make the best of the weather and conditions and have a more relaxing day when it's needed.
The Cuillin Munros are achievable for the fit hill-walker. To aid success it is advised that you have good ‘hill-fitness’, have some experience of exposed terrain and have some general upper body strength to cope with the technical ground and long days. For those who are not regular hill-walkers, a good level of cardio fitness and general upper body strength are necessary.
Days are normally 7-10 hours long, with roughly 1000m of ascent and 15km covered daily. You do not have to have experience of roped climbing.
We will provide a harness and helmet for each day. If you are not used to this technical equipment your guide will ensure it is used in the correct manner. The guide will also assess the groups abilities and the prevailing weather and use a rope when they see fit. We are here to make your experience as safe and fun as possible.
Please see the Kit List for a comprehensive list of what you will need to bring.
