A historic ridge line taking you from the North Face car park, past the Charles Inglis Clarke Memorial Hut, to the UK's highest mountain summit with the possibility of incredible views. A fantastic grade 3 / Diff scramble including the iconic Tower Gap, a mental test in an incredible and atmospheric setting. In winter this classic takes on another dimension, from classic Scottish scramble to alpine ridge. Finally a descent via the old Pony Track or perhaps Ledge Route really rounds off the day.
The way to summit Ben Nevis. This should be on every keen mountaineer's ticklist.
"Their astonishment and delight knew no bounds. A deeply curved array of ridges, buttresses, and pinnacles towered 2,000ft overhead, some out of lingering snowfields. And no climb had ever been attempted. They chose the most prominent central feature: a massive ridge whose broad base rose 700ft to the first of three towers. Above this tower, now called the Douglas Boulder, the ridge narrowed lengthily to a second tower, and then more briefly to a third (the Great Tower) at 4,000ft. From the gap behind that, the summit plateau rose another 400ft. The Hopkinsons climbed to the foot of the Great Tower, but retired in the face of the late hour and unknown difficulties. Two days later they walked to the summit and found a way down the whole ridge. They had not made the first ascent - that was done two years later by Norman Collie's party - but they were the real pioneers"
