This spectacular ridge walk in the heart of Glen Coe begins with a steep ascent on a good path up into Coire nan Lochan before breaking out onto the ridge of Gearr Aonach. The ridge above then leads to the day's first summit of Stob Coire nan Lochan. Despite standing at 1115m this mountain is not a Munro due to it's close proximity to Bidean nam Bian, which is reached by descending south-west to a bealach, then a steep re-ascent to gain the summit. The ridge to the south east leads easily to Stob Coire Sgreamhach before the route returns to Bealach Dearg. The Hidden Valley, which is steeped in history, lies below, and is reached by a steep descent from the bealach. After crossing the base of the Hidden Valley a good path leads out and back to the start of the walk.
"Bidean nam Bian is a compact and complex massif. So high and steep are the peaks above [Glen Coe], the Three Sisters, that it is difficult to get a view of the summit of Bidean, which is hidden behind them. The whole massif [of Bidean nam Bian] is rocky and steep-sided, with great crags and gullies, steep boulder fields and scree slopes on which paths give routes of relative safety."
