This classic mountaineering route takes a devious line through incredible terrain. Starting at the North Face Car Park we ascend to the Charles Inglis Clark Memorial Hut along the Allt a' Mhuilinn until we reach the ampitheatre of Coire na Ciste, a vast andesite bowl of crags and pinnacles. Here we have the option of ascending the infamous Number 5 Gully a short way or taking an alternative line over Moonlight Buttress to access some fantastic scrambling onto the top of Carn Dearg Buttress, a massive rock monolith with Ben Nevis's best rock climbs on it. After Carn Dearg Buttress the routes character opens out into a spectacular arete with incredible views before taking us onto the summit plateau and so to the summit of the Ben.
An unlikely looking route for a hugely rewarding ascent of Ben Nevis.
"An unlikely yet excellent mountaineering route. A sneaky start leads onto a sequence of sloping ledges, which allow passage across the steep southeast flank of Carn Dearg Buttress. Once the top of the buttress is gained, the nature of the route changes dramatically and a fine arete, in a spectacular position, is followed to the Ben's summit plateau."
