On the Northern side of the Glen Coe valley standing proud above the A82 and looking over the Three Sisters to the South, lies the Aonach Eagach. This fantastic 4km long ridge traverses over four peaks, two of which are Munros, and takes in the brilliant Pinnacles, a series of jagged teeth, over which all who wish to traverse the ridge must cross. Normally starting at the eastern end and ascending to the top of Am Bodach deals with the major bulk of ascent on this route, after which we gradually work our way along this spectacular crest with interest and challenge interspersed with summits, views and more relaxed settings. at the final summit we have the choice to descend directly to the south or via the Pap of Glen Coe and a refreshing drink at the Clachaig Inn. All this combined with fantastic views over Glen Coe, much of the Mamores, Grey Corries and of course Ben Nevis, this ridge traverse is the full mountain experience.
The longest and most varied ridge traverse on the UK mainland. What's not to like?!
"The north side of Glen Coe is dominated by one long, switch-back ridge - the famous Aonach Eagach. There are several ridges in the area which are higher and longer, but none which are so narrow and so difficult to escape from once committed. It can be thoroughly recommended to those with a head for heights. Some of the sections are extremely exposed. This makes it a difficult outing to grade, because the technical difficulties are not so great"
